The Centre for Electron Microscopy and Materials Science (CEMMS) Is an interdisciplinary research, teaching and service centre, serving researchers across the University of Auckland and throughout New Zealand, as well as New Zealand industry. The Centre offers a comprehensive suite of advanced analytical techniques designed to support research across a wide range of disciplines, including materials science, engineering, chemistry, geology, biomedical, life and physical sciences, to name but a few. Our highly experienced, specialist staff are committed to providing a supportive and constructive working environment where clients receive expert advice in training to achieve their analysis and research goals.
The Centre is the University of Auckland’s principal electron microscopy facility for scanning electron microscopy, hosting New Zealand’s first and only Focused Ion Beam capable scanning electron microscope, and the country’s only Hysitron Triboindenter. It is housed in purpose-built facilities on the ground floor of building 405, within the Faculty of Engineering.
The Centre operates is part of a university-wide electron microscopy platform, incorporating the University’s scanning electron microscopes, transmission electron microscopes and electron probe micro analyser.
